Farewell Mitchell's

I think it’s odd to feel nostalgic about a company such as Mitchell’s Gourmet Foods; however, I feel like I am anyway.

I’ve grown up with, at the very least, a recognition of this building as a place where my dad and uncle worked. I’ve driven past it a million times. And I've even worked there myself.

Currently due to preparation for the finishing touches to Circle Drive here in Saskatoon, the building is slowly being demolished. Every day that I drive to work there is less and less of the Edifice known as Mitchell's Gourmet Foods.

Don't Stab Me

Ok, so since the last time I posted I've started my new shift, I just completed a full week (and six days in a row) of my new shift.
It's not really that bad, but it will take some getting used to. If I get to sleep on time then I wake up with Cara not too tired and spend the morning with Laura. Maybe we go swimming or to the mall, or do a little tidying at home. Unfortunately when I say little that's what I mean, so not too much, but we'll get better at that.

I would have to say that that most "exciting" thing that happened this week though was when I was trying to get the plastic off of one of Laura's baby spoons. It had met the garburator a couple of weeks ago, ending frayed and worn, a wonderful place for bacteria to hide etc.

So, anyway, I was prying at the plastic with a kitchen knife when everything slipped. and suddenly the pinky finger of my left hand was in a lot of pain. I looked at it immediately while putting the knife down. I couldn't see anything, then I saw blood show up on both sides of my finger and realized I had stabbed straight through my finger. Luckily it was just on the top, so it was only a skin wound. It even poked me in the ring finger after bumping my wedding ring. If you're squeamish you mightn't want to click, Pre-Stitches. Then after waiting a couple hours in the ER with my Mom and Laura, the
Dr. informed me that since he had to stitch in two places he'd have to apply freezing twice, and that if I was ok with it he might as well just stitch me without freezing, which unfortunately also made sense to me. Post-Stitches

He also basically said that unless I was a Hand Model, that we'd mostly ignore the hole in my ring finger. So I'm keeping it clean and it is healing well along with my pinky finger.

First Entry

Well, this is my first entry on a new blog. Hopefully I will end up posting updates on a regular basis.

Today, I am at work on my break. I'm going to be starting a new shift soon and will be working some odd hours, which I'm not used to but it will cut down on some of Cara's and my daycare costs. Also I will be getting a shift premium for having a shift that goes past 6pm, which is pretty sweet.

Have a good one.
